WW1 Memorial Forest groves have recently been established around The Coromandel to commemorate the New Zealand soldiers who were killed in the Great War 100 years ago.

The eight WW1 Memorial Forest sites pay tribute to the NZ soldiers who fell in a particular battle or to the men from a particular Coromandel town who were killed by planting an equal number of trees to men who never came back from the Great War.

Cathedral Cove 2,779 trees planted here pay tribute to the 2,779 men killed in the Gallipoli campaign.

Stella Evered Memorial Park, Hahei Some 2,300 trees were planted in 2016 to honour the New Zealanders killed in the Battle of the Somme.

Pauanui, Tangitarori Lane Tangitarori Lane. The 640 trees planted here commemorate the NZ soldiers killed in the Sinai-Palestine campaign.

Whangamata Le Quesnoy Memorial Park, SH25 (north) has 122 trees to honour the soldiers killed in the Battle of LeQuesnoy.

Tairua RSA cemetery The RSA cemetery honours the 48 men from Tairua-Hikuai who served and died in the war.

Thames Rhodes Park at south end of town. 247 trees to honour the Thames war dead.
