Whangamatā is getting set for our 2024 Matariki Celebrations. We are excited to come together as a community to reflect, remember, connect and celebrate Matariki as a community.
The festival is in it’s second year and features workshops, a hāngī and concert and a Matariki viewing.
The Workshop topics include whakairo, raranga, collaborative artwork, tā mako, kite making, clay and textiles art. The workshops are all practical and you will be able to make something that you can take away with you to remember Matariki or gift to a loved one.
The highlight of the weekend for many is the hāngī at Williamson Park. The hāngī is laid in the park so the community can come and view the process. We cater for over 600 people with hāngī, kai moana and vegan curry served along with entertainment from local bands and Kapa Haka.
We hope you can join us to celebrate Matariki.
