Northern Excursion

Spend a day exploring the remote northern Coromandel with tours and transport options with Pahi Coastal Walk and Hike and Bike, both offering day trips along the rugged coastline to remarkable bays in this secluded part of the region. A good option is to stay overnight in Coromandel Town.

While in Coromandel Town you might also enjoy a visit to Driving Creek, The Waterworks or the 309 Road with the Kauri Grove and Falls. Grab a bite to eat at The Mussel Kitchen, Coromandel Oyster Company or Peppertree Restaurant.

Nature Highlights of the remote Northern Coromandel

Tangiaro Kiwi Retreat is the place to go if all you wish to hear is the sound of birds and the breeze through the trees. Home to over 50 wild kiwi, Tangiaro also offers nature experience walks.

If time permits you might also like to head into Coromandel Town for a visit through the 1.6-hectare predator-free fenced wildlife sanctuary and sculpture park at  Driving Creek or take flight over the tree tops with a zipline Forest Canopy Tour.

While in Coromandel Town you might also enjoy a visit to The Waterworks and we suggest you grab a bite to eat at The Mussel Kitchen, Coromandel Oyster Company or Peppertree Restaurant.

Three-Day Pahi Coastal Walkway

The northernmost part of The Coromandel feels wild and remote. Most of the land north of Colville is forested, cloaking the hills from the deserted coast over the slopes of the mysterious Mt Moehau. Locals up here are independent by nature and necessity and take their guardianship of this special place to heart.

There is something about getting out in nature that helps us connect to something bigger than ourselves, and to put things in perspective. We know it's a great way to take time out, alone or with friends and family, to feel more relaxed and centred. The Pahi Coastal Walk offers a way to immerse yourself in nature with a taste of farm life with all the care and comfort of a fully hosted three-day walking experience.
