Earth Energies Sanctuary, a luxury retreat located at the gateway to the Coromandel in the foothills of the Hauraki Plains, is the result of an inspired vision, a passion for wellness and nature, and a healthy dose of hard work.
Fifteen years ago, dynamic husband and wife team, Marie and Duncan, said goodbye to their busy globe-trotting careers in the mining industry and swapped their steel caps for gumboots. From there the concept of Earth Energies Sanctuary steadily evolved. While not always tranquil as they tackled their 200-acre blank canvas, the Sanctuary has truly been a labour of love, often involving their children, family and friends.
The Journey started with the excavation of two kilometres of driveway, installing power, establishing a dam and trough system, kilometres of fencing and planting thousands of native trees and shrubs. Then came the construction of implement sheds, and chook houses followed by a two-bedroom cabin for the humans and a manufacturing room for their hand-crafted botanical products. It was another six years until they were able to realise their dream of building a main residence (Marie and Duncan’s private retreat) and bespoke therapy rooms.
“It was extremely important to us that the environment was harmonious and balanced; enhancing the natural ecosystem by working on soil biology, natural fertilisers and introducing bee hives was our priority,” Marie passionately recalls. “The richest reward of these decisions is that we have seen the return of many native birds, frogs and other wildlife”.
Coming from high-stress careers, Marie and Duncan knew all too well the detrimental impact of stress and anxiety on the body and mind. Over the last 10 years, Marie has trained in different therapeutic modalities to help others restore their mind/body balance for optimum health. This experience with deep relaxation and natural therapies has shown the innate ability of our bodies to repair and heal themselves when in an environment that is harmonious and balanced.
“By tuning into the energy and working with the natural rhythms of the land; growing native Kawakawa for our botanical range, caring for our Red Devon cattle herd, and our chooks, nurturing the beehives, looking after our guests - we aim to keep everything in balance. There is something beautiful and rewarding that comes forth when you are following a life purpose, calling or dream,” Marie shares. “We both feel so inspired by the inner calm we experience from our property's pristine native bush, the birdsong and the cleansing streams, and we feel compelled to share it”.

The luxury, private, two-bed two-bath cabin is set in the heart of the estate. Here the air is fresh, clean and invigorating, and the property’s hilly nature means you can enjoy spectacular, awe-inspiring 360-degree panorama across the firth of Thames and out to the Coromandel ranges. Imagine completely relaxing in the luxurious egg-shaped bath, your gaze drifting over the calming native forest views. Slip into a deluxe bathrobe, stoke the woodfire and curl up with a book and a glass of wine. As only one set of guests is hosted at any time, privacy and seclusion are assured. With a self-catered kitchen or chef-prepared meals, and a complimentary farm-fresh breakfast, you will want for nothing.

The Sanctuary Therapy Experience
Earth Energies offers a powerful combination of deep relaxation therapies to help with stress relief, physical ailments, anxiety, general wellness and improved sleep. The luxurious treatment rooms sit on the property’s summit, 800 metres from the guest cabin accommodation. These purpose-designed rooms are a peaceful space in which to discover the powers of self-healing. All our therapies have the common theme of bringing you to an alpha or even deeper theta brainwave state, thus restoring balance essential for optimum relaxation, creativity, insight and mindfulness.
Therapies include floatation therapy, full-spectrum infrared sauna, clinical hypnotherapy, zero balancing, secrets of the skull, aromatouch massage and essential oils. Choose from individually tailored, full or half-day therapies based on your needs. Guests have exclusive use of the state-of-the-art treatment rooms during their appointments.
Earth Energies Botanicals
Working with the rhythms of nature Earth Energies has developed a unique range of native Kawakawa creams & ointments, flower essences, crystal salts and other natural products. These products are handcrafted at the Sanctuary, with the majority of ingredients being grown and harvested on the land, or sourced from quality NZ organic suppliers.
