Activities in Pauanui
Pauanui on the Pacific Coast of The Coromandel and across the harbour from Tairua is an excellent base from which to explore the east coast offshore islands or the craggy mountainous backdrop to the west. It also has a small but vibrant permanent population eager to accommodate visitors seeking that special brand of kiwi hospitality and local knowledge.
The offshore islands of Slipper, Shoe and the Aldermen Islands can be explored by booking a trip with numerous local dive and fishing charter boats. At Hikuai at the foothills of the ranges to the west, you’ll find historic native bush trails through Kauri and fern forests and a fresh water river great for kayaking and swimming in summer.
For an easier walk meander through the network of walkways of Pauanui that were built when the town was developed as a purpose-built holiday resort.

From bush to beach, to golf and fishing, Pauanui has plenty to offer. Hire a paddle board, take a fishing charter, dive on reefs and off-shore islands or be pampered in grand style.

There's plenty of free options around Pauanui. Pauanui is a short drive from bush walks, old gold mines and tunnels to explore, fresh water swimming holes, beaches and Tairua is just across the harbour.
