Pauanui

Pauanui, a purpose built holiday community which lies across the harbour from Tairua, features the country's first canal housing development. A number of charter and fishing boats operate from both Pauanui and Tairua wharves and the beaches are perfect for safe swimming and surfing in most conditions. The offshore islands of Slipper, Shoe and the Aldermen Islands can be explored by booking a trip with local dive and fishing charters. At Hikuai at the foothills of the ranges, you’ll find native bush trails through kauri and fern forests and a fresh water river; great for kayaking and swimming.
