If you intend to come to the Coromandel to camp, please book at a holiday park or camp ground.
Camping is prohibited on any public place including reserves, beaches and on the roadside. In this context camping shall include the use of any vehicle for sleeping whether or not it is specifically set out for sleeping. Bylaw officers patrol public places and will require persons found camping in a public place to move on.

Top of the
peninsula: five campgrounds
at the top of the peninsula offer
remote coastal experiences in superb
settings. Waikawau Bay and Stony Bay
on the eastern side, Fletcher Bay
and Port Jackson on the north coast,
and Fantail Bay on the western side.
All campgrounds have toilets.
Stony
Bay Hut: ideal for those wanting
to fish, walk the coastal track or
ride the mountain bike track between
Stony and Fletcher Bays. Modest bunk
accommodation available.
Pauanui/Tairua
area
Broken Hills
campground: nestled on the
banks of the Tairua River with access
to interesting historic walks. 19kms
form Tairua and 27kms from Whangamata.
Whangamata
area
Wentworth
Valley campground: located
in bush surroundings close to the
eastern beaches and activities of
Whangamata
Waihi
area
Dickey Flat
campground: There is road access
and track access to this campground.
Road access via Dickey Flat Road.
The campground has basic facilities
including a toilet, grass campsites
and good swimming holes.

All other campsites no bookings
are required unless it is for
a large group.
