  • Take a tour with one of our experienced nature specialists, Kiwi Dundee Adventures or Johansen and Wincorp Adventures. They will take you into the depths of The Coromandel’s sub-tropical native rain forest and share with you their knowledge of the flora and fauna. The forest is rich in glow-worms and native birdlife.
  • Experience the magic of the Te-Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve up close. Various options, catering for all adventure levels, include scenic boat trips with Ocean Wave Tours and Glass Bottom Boat, sea kayaking adventures with Cathedral Cove Sea Kayaks, and underwater diving excursions with Dive HQ .
  • Visitors will welcome and enjoy the assortment of New Zealand native and exotic flora at Rapaura who have been presented with a “Gardens of Distinction” award and has a cafe onsite.
  • For hiking enthusiasts, a range of walks and tramps depart from the Department of Conservation field station and information centre based in the Kauaeranga Valley near Thames.

 

Northern Coromandel Excursion – 1 day

  • Spend a day exploring the remote Northern Coromandel Peninsula with experienced guides. Depending on your base Coromandel Discovery on the west and Aotearoa Tours [on the east both offer personalised day trips along rugged coastline to remarkable bays in this secluded part of the region.

 

Southern Coromandel Excursion – 2 day

  • Come and spend some time exploring the Southern Coromandel. Rich in gold mining, stunning gorge walks and kilometres of pristine beaches makes this area a real gem. Spend some time exploring the Karangahake Gorge, self-guided or with a local tour operator. Take a ride from Waihi to Waikino on the Goldfields Railway, take time out to relax on one of the many bays and beaches scattered along the coast.

  • Golfing enthusiasts will welcome the opportunity to hit a round in style. Lakes Resort is a well-respected course, with full country club facilities and is set against a unique backdrop. Those not interested in the greens may welcome the opportunity to indulge in the massage and spa treatments offered by Grand Mercure Puka Park Resort.

 

  • Spend time with Epic Adventures to experience action packed fishing, and see why the waters surrounding the Coromandel are home to some of New Zealand’s best fishing.

 

  • The first gold strike in New Zealand took place in Coromandel Town and it’s colonial architecture acts as a great reminder of this era. Visitors can guide themselves through the buildings and museums on the Heritage Walking Trail to the Gold Stamper Battery or be accompanied by informative Coromandel Discovery guides.
  • Built on the pioneering industries of gold mining and kauri logging, Thames is the largest town in the region. Waihi is an old and existing gold mining town.  The region’s fascinating history can be uncovered by visiting excellent museums in both towns. Visitors can tour a working goldmine in Waihi.
  • From Waihi visitors can take a fun and interesting journey aboard an historic vintage train into the impressive Karangahake Gorge with Goldfields Railway.

 

  • The Coromandel Art and Craft Trail offers visitors the perfect opportunity to visit with local artists in their studios. Over 25 galleries and studios are featured on the trail at locations throughout the Peninsula.
  • While visiting Coromandel Town visitors should spend an afternoon exploring the whimsical magic of The Waterworks
  • Driving Creek Railway and Potteries is one of the signature activities in the region. The hand-built trains and 3km route are art-works in their own right and are well complimented by the onsite working potteries.
