Education in New Zealand

One of the guiding principles of the New Zealand Education system is to provide students with portable education qualifications, which are recognised all over the world. New Zealand values the diversity of programmes offered through different institutions, but national policies and rigorous quality assurance provide consistency and credibility at all levels.

In the OECD's PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) 2000 study which assessed 15 year old students, New Zealand was among the six best performing countries for reading literacy, mathematical literacy and scientific literacy.

Education Coromandel schools provide quality education for international students, from intensive English language programmes, through transition to secondary studies and on to the tertiary sector. The unique benefit of our member schools is that they offer a friendly, welcoming environment enhanced by small numbers of students, thereby allowing teachers to spend quality time with each individual.

Outdoor activities are another focus of the Coromandel schools, reflecting the fantastic lifestyle of the Coromandel area and providing rich opportunities for students to develop not only educationally, but also in their life experiences.

Ensuring pathways for students is one of the basic philosophies of Education Coromandel. Member schools have agreed to cooperate to provide the best overall education for students from the time they arrive until they complete their secondary studies and are ready to move on to tertiary studies in Hamilton, Auckland, or at other tertiary institutions in New Zealand.

English language study is often the first step for international students when they arrive in New Zealand. These needs are met by a number of schools in the Education Coromandel network. Specialist language training institutes offer programmes for a range of ages and abilities, from the students who may want only a short term New Zealand experience to those who are focussed on furthering their academic studies.
