April was a month for keeping us active, but May promises to showcase The Coromandel the 'Homegrown' way. The Ukulele Festival and the Colville Village Weekend of the Arts showcase the Coromandel's artisan culture while the Mussel Fritter Competition is a culinary event using produce farmed and harvested right on our doorstep.
The Jennian Homes Mother’s Day 5k walk/run will be a great way to start the day with mum before taking her out for brunch at one of the many local cafes.
The Hauraki Rail Trail official opening will be held on the 5th of May. Be one of the first to ride this fantastic cycle way while enjoying some of the best scenery New Zealand has to offer.

Opening of the Hauraki Rail Trail
The Grand Opening of the Hauraki Rail Trail will be held on the 5th of May 2012, at 1pm at the Victoria Battery site in the Karangahake Gorge. Public entry is from the Waikino Railway Station end on SH 2, Karangahake Gorge.
The Hauraki Rail Trail will be a multi day ride, making it an ideal weekend experience. The trail will be accessed from Thames, Paeroa, Waihi, or Te Aroha, and the trail will also offer a range of shorter riding options, including day rides.
The trail showcases some of the best scenery New Zealand has to offer, rich in pioneering history. A major highlight includes riding through the stunning Karangahake Gorge, one of the “14 Wonders of New Zealand”.
The Coromandel Ukulele Festival
Come and experience ukulele workshops and an evening concert featuring international ukulele performers.
Sit back and soak up the sounds of the ukulele or get amongst the open mic session - the 3rd annual Coromandel Ukulele Festival is not to be missed.
Mussel Fritter Competition
Time to get out mums secret homegrown mussel fritter recipe. Enter the Mussel Fritter competition to be in the 2012 best fritter on the Coromandel.
Sample the fritters while sitting back and listening to the sweet sounds from the local ukulele bands.
Colville Village Weekend of Arts
The Colville Village Weekend of Arts showcases the Coromandel and its diverse and rich artisan culture.
Workshops, exhibitions and concerts make up this weekend of pure art culture.
Walk the Coromandel
The Coromandel is a walker's dream with the landscape dominated by a range of jagged mountains and its fringes scattered with coves and beaches.
As a result of the regions rich past many of the walks in the area are steeped in gold mining, kauri logging history and coastal vistas.
