Hauraki Rail Trail


The Hauraki Rail Trail is a 3 day ride for most or a 2-day ride for those fit cyclists, making it an ideal long weekend or weekend experience.
It can be accessed from Thames, Paeroa, Waihi or Te Aroha, and the trail also offers a range of shorter riding options - including day rides. The trail showcases some of the best scenery New Zealand has to offer, rich in pioneering history.
A major highlight includes riding through the stunning Karangahake Gorge, one of the “14 Wonders of New Zealand”. Transport is available to get you and your bike back to your car and will run from Wahi Te Aroha and Paeroa back to Thames.

Thames -Beautiful historic mining town nestled under the Coromandel ranges on the Firth of Thames full of history from gold mines to museums not to mention great Pubs, Cafes, and restaurants or fresh fish and chips on the wharf as you enter town.
Paeroa - the home of the World famous L&P bottle and many spectacular events throughout the year and many antique shops to explore while boasting Town of the year for 2012. Come and see why.
Waihi – historic gold mining town with original old Pubs and great Cafe's and the famous Waitete Cafe Restaurant. A short ride to the Goldfields historic train and you and your bike are off to Waikino Station for your trip through the past giving you time to think of what the day has to offer.
Te Aroha – home to the luxurious, historic Te Aroha Mineral Spas and the Te Aroha Leisure Pools, old mining infrastructure such as the Victoria battery, the Blackpool Dam and Water Race and the Waihi-Waikino vintage railway.
