Orokawa Bay Walk

Orakawa Bay walk is a must do while staying in Waihi and Waihi Beach. The track climbs to stunning views of the Pacific Coast Ocean and winds along the coastal ridge and through tunnels of native bush.
As if the scenery along the way isn’t reward enough wait until you arrive at the bay itself. Like many beaches on The Coromandel the golden sand meets gnarly old Pohutukawa trees, ideal for a spot of shade.
It’s advised to swim at nearby Waihi Beach. Orakawa has a sharp drop off in the seabed, dumping waves, strong currents and remote access so care must be taken in and around the water.
Allow 45 minutes to get to Orakawa Bay, remember to take drinking water, snacks and could walking shoes.
Remember to check the tide times as the start of the track may be inaccessible at high tide.
Homunga Bay to Ngatitangata Road - Continue on for another 2 hours to the popular fishing spot of Homunga Bay. A further 45 minute walk will take you to Ngatitangata Road. Due to the steep terrain it’s worth considering starting at this end and walking on to Waihi Beach.
