Siamese Kauri
The Siamese Kauri located within the Waiau Kauri Grove can be found 8km up the 309 Road from Coromandel Town. The 500-m walk takes you to the most accessible mature stand of Kauri on The Coromandel. The grove contains a ‘siamese’ kauri that forks just above the ground.
The tree began as two separate seedlings. Over the centuries they grew in diameter, and the space between them reduced until eventually the two trees fused at the base.
