Tairua Beach

Tairua

Tairua beach, located at the base of Mt Paku is great for surfing and soaking up the sun, while swimming is safe in the water of the sheltered harbour.

SURFING TAIRUA: A popular surf beach, Tairua has slightly coarser sand than its neighbour Pauanui, steep dunes and sometimes a dumpy shore break that provide fast hollow rides. Tairua captures the best of the easterly swells, so if you're looking for a wave on lighter swells it's worth a look.

SAFETY: Tairua Beach is patrolled by Surf Life Saving NZ in the summer. Always swim between the flags. Beware of rips and holes.
