Thames Historical Museum

Relating to the sequence of the development of Thames, the museum is in a park setting with modern buildings.

It has period rooms with genuine locally used furnishings and clothing. Period shops include a Barbers' shop, Palmer's Sweet Shop, a grocer's and a dress shop with models. There are also Mäori artefacts and photos of local Mäori people.

Mining, kauri timber, foundry and early newspaper displays, miners "cabin", Hauraki Plains farming, beekeeping, pennyfarthing cycles, early Thames cycles, car and railway exhibits and and a very good, interesting display for WW1, which make up the rest of the exhibits.

The Thames Historical Museum also has a Kauri display as well as a display of 25 Kauri models of buildings that are no longer in Thames.

There is also a section on early hospital and medicine, schools of early times from 1867 including teaching resources, status and work of women, men's work tools, clothing and accessories up to 1930s, china, Plant Pottery.

There is a large photo collection. Should you wish to see any particular photograph please contact the museum in advance to ensure photo is available for viewing.
