616 Port Road Whangamata
A steady climb via Durrant Road access sees mountain bikers gain a broad vista over all of Whangamata, the famous bar surf break, and the vastness of the Pacific Ocean with Mayor and the Aldermans Islands in the distance. Truly spectacular!

Contained in this area lies a well established trail network catering for all abilities. Maps and directions are available at the I-site and the local cycle shop situated on Port Rd.

For those wanting a true adventure ride try the bullock track leading to the Luck at Last mining region. A bit of a climb to the aptly named Ridge Road then downhill through native bush experiencing true trail riding along the century old bullock track. As the name suggests this track was cut to supply the gold mining settlement that was instrumental in establishing Whangamata decades ago. The remnants of this time are still visible and well worth an inspection, while having a well earned break.

Finishing this loop is a rewarding ride out next to the access road

A map and some local knowledge should be sort to enhance your experience and there is always a willing local to assist with your backcountry enjoyment!

Permits are required for this area and can be purchased at Whangamata i-SITE Visitor Information Centre or the local bike shop.
