The Kauri Block
The Department of Conservation's newest
development at Coromandel township is
called The Kauri Block. It offers walkers
a fantastic panorama of land and sea
with a taste of Maori and Pakeha heritage.
Directions: If
arriving into Coromandel town from Thames
or Whitianga take Wharf Road, which
is the left hand turn off the T-intersection
when you arrive at Coromandel town.
The walk's entrance has Department of
Conservation signposts, and is next
to a house (No 356) on the right as
you head towards the wharf area.
Time: Two hours at a gentle
pace,
including the walk back to the car along
Long Bay Road.

Coromandel Coastal Walkway
The walkway is from Fletcher Bay to Stony Bay located at the very top
of the peninsula.Alternatively the walk can be done in reverse.
The walk provides great views of
the coastline and offshore islands (Great Barrier Island, Cuvier, Mercury Islands, etc.).
Visitors have the option of doing the walk return (6- 8 hours walking time) or joining an
organised tour with Coromandel Discovery Tours who collect
visitors from Coromandel Town, drop them at Fletcher Bay and pick them up at Stony Bay and
return them to Coromandel Town. For a guided walk Walking Legends
Guided Walks offer the perfect
solution.
Directions: Starting from Fletcher Bay. Fletcher Bay is at the road end, 36kms
from Colville and 7km past Port Jackson. The road from Colville is unsealed (please note: not
all rental vehicles are permitted on this road).
Time: The track is 7 kms in length
and takes 3-4 hours one way
Tip: There is an
alternative track for those wanting to mountain bike the
coastal journey.
Waiau Kauri
Grove
A spectacular grove of
kauri trees. These Kauris have been protected since before the turn of the century and are
truly magnificent. The track is very well formed with footbridges and boardwalks, which take
you close to the trees. An excellent walk for tree lovers.
Directions: Travel 3 kms south from Coromandel town and turn left into the 309 Road.
Travel a further 8 kms along the 309 Road and you will find parking space on the right side of
the road. The walk is on the left side of the
road.
Time: 30 Minutes

Waiau
Falls
Right beside the road is a beautiful bush glade where the Waiau
Falls crash over a rock face into a pool below. There is access by tracks both upstream and
downstream of the falls. This is a great spot for a swim.
Directions: Travel 3 kms south from Coromandel and turn left into the 309 Road.
Travel a further 7.3 kms along the 309 Road and right beside the road is the Waiau
Falls.

2 Minutes one way
