Transport Options Around The Coromandel
The Coromandel is within an easy 2 hour drive of Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua and Tauranga. It is located on the Pacific Coast Highway . Most visitors drive to The Coromandel however there are regular bus services (see below), a ferry direct from Auckland city to Te Kouma harbour near Coromandel Town that takes 2 hours and flights into Whitianga with Sun Air .
The Coromandel roads offer some of the best scenery in New Zealand, with the Thames Coast Rd regarded as one of the worlds most scenic drives. There is also the Karangahake Gorge where you are literally driving through the middle of a dramatic conservation park. If you're travelling to or from Auckland avoid the traffic and take in the Seabird Coast. It is important to take care on these roads and respect other road users only passing when it is safe and being sure to let traffic pass when it is safe to do so.
