Waihi’s Gold Story mine interpretation centre is downstairs at Waihi Visitor Centre, Seddon St. opposite the Cornish Pumphouse. Open 7 days.
Newmont’s Education Centre, (corner of Moresby Avenue/Savage Rd) provides curriculum linked programmes, resources and mine tours for school groups.

Waihi Township has a fascinating mining history and a Waihi Mine Tour is a must-do for those wanting to get up-close and personal to a modernday working gold mine.

You’ll be fitted out with safety gear in preparation for going on-site and will view the mine workings and shown every stage of the mining process. Tours depart from Waihi Information Centre.
