Issued 28th Jan 2023 - The Coromandel has experienced a severe weather event, with a state of emergency declared on 3 Feb 2023. As a result, SH25a and the Tapu Coroglen roads have been closed.
Some local DOC campsites are closed, and Te Whatu Ora Waikato advises everyone to not use coastal beaches, lakes, rivers and streams until at least 48 hours following heavy rainfall due to potential bacterial contamination.

Visit 50+ artists centred around the picturesque coastal area of Mercury Bay on the Eastern Coromandel Peninsula, New Zealand, encompassing the areas of Hikuai, Tairua, Hahei, Hot Water Beach, Cooks Beach, Whenuakite, Coroglen, Whitianga, Kuaotunu, Rings Beach, Opito Bay and Matarangi.
The annual artist's open studios provide a unique opportunity to visit member artists in their studios, to see their work in progress, find what inspires them and what new art they are working on. It also gives you the chance to buy original work from some of the best artists in Mercury Bay direct from their studios.
The artists make up a rich and eclectic mix of the arts including potters, sculptors, painters, printmakers, photographers, flax weavers, woodworkers, mosaic artists, jewellers, a glass artist and a furniture maker.
