Issued 28th Jan 2023 - The Coromandel has experienced a severe weather event, with a state of emergency declared on 3 Feb 2023. As a result, SH25a and the Tapu Coroglen roads have been closed.
Some local DOC campsites are closed, and Te Whatu Ora Waikato advises everyone to not use coastal beaches, lakes, rivers and streams until at least 48 hours following heavy rainfall due to potential bacterial contamination.
Please take care in and around the region and keep up to date through the following agencies.
Official opening of Mercury Bay Art Escape annual Open Studios.
The opening will be held on 3rd March at Hot Waves Cafe, Hot Water Beach at 6pm.
This is an eagerly awaited evening on the peninsula arts calendar for visitors to meet the artists, view the Showcase Exhibition and have first opportunity to purchase art work.
Guest speaker for the Gala Opening is treasured New Zealand gardening writer, author and broadcaster - Lynda Hallinan whose favourite gardens integrate art and nature. Growing up on a farm in the Waikato, the highlight of her childhood summers were the 10 days her family spent every year in a tent pitched at the Hot Water Beach Motor Camp. In 2013, she bought a rundown retro bach in Tairua's main street and now her kids get to enjoy the same Coromandel vibe.
This art event includes:
+ Exclusive access to artists and their work
+ Complimentary beverage and canapés
+ Live music by our guest band
Be sure to secure your tickets as this event is a sell-out each year.
