Daniel Murray on a Coro' roadie with Wilderness Motorhomes
When we heard that Daniel Murray was headed our way in a Wilderness Motorhome, we jumped at the chance to get him to the remote northern peninsula and show him the beauty of the Coromandel Coastal Walkway. It's one of our lesser-known spots, but the wide coastal views over the barrier islands make it worth the trip north of Coromandel Town. There are some pretty cool camping spots up there too, perfect for a classic Kiwi holiday. Daniel shared his adventure on @danielmurraynz
Port Jackson and Fletcher Bay are good places to start, and the Doc campground at the latter there has a backpackers as well.
The Coromandel Coastal Walkway connects Fletcher Bay with Stony Bay (there are no roads between these two places). It's three hours each way, but Coromandel Discovery and Coromandel Adventures operating out of Coromandel Town provide transport and scenic tours if you prefer to make a one-way trip.
It's all south from here, and after checking out some of our hot spots, Daniel ended the Coro' leg of his roadtrip with a walk on Waihi Beach, a few minutes drive from Waihi, the region's heart of gold.
