Fresh air, spectacular views and walks to suit every level of fitness are on offer to those keen to explore The Coromandel on foot. Many of the walks are on conservation land, so they are well-maintained and signposted.
Enjoy the sweet, fresh scent of native New Zealand plants, dense and damp under a lush green canopy, or take in the wide open Pacific Ocean vista dotted with islands off The Coromandel coast before heading down to an isolated rocky bay or sweeping ocean beach.
We have some tips for heading out to walk our trails and to help us take care of our big backyard:
- Dotterel nest on our beaches, so keep your dog on a lead and stay away from the marked nesting areas.
- Kiwi live in our forest, so have aversion training for your dog, keep her on a lead and mind the signs for access.
- If you get caught short in the forest, please go at least 50 metres away from any stream or river, and bury all traces of waste.
- Clean your shoes going in and out of the forest to protect our Kauri from diseases.
- Please stay on the trail, don't forge your own track taking shortcuts or photos. There's a great shot to be had from the lookout just around the next bend...
- And you will notice there are no rubbish bins. Please take your rubbish home from the trail or the beach, or back to where you are staying .
