The heritage and splendour of the Coromandel is the setting for our Area school: right in the heart of our beautiful town. We are fortunate indeed to be able to educate our children in this rich and deep backdrop. Our maxim is simple; we want our students to strive to be the best they can be in all their endeavours. We are able to meet their needs through outstanding teaching and our commitment to producing well rounded citizens. International students entering Coromandel Area School will be assessed for their oral English language skills through a scheduled telephone conversation before they are accepted for enrolment. When they arrive at the school, their written and reading skills will be assessed using the New Zealand asTTLe tests. Based on this, they will be placed in an ESOL class. Unless the student shows Intermediate level, or above English competency, they will participate in five ESOL classes a week. Students with Intermediate level, or above English competency, will enter mainstream English classes, but will continue to have ESOL once a week to support their learning. Students wishing to continue on to tertiary studies in New Zealand may enroll for IELTS classes, held once a week. Our IELTS programme is a three term programme (Terms One-Three), with an opportunity to sit the IELTS exam at the beginning of the fourth term.
