A small seaside settlement up the coast from Miranda and over the Firth from Thames.
Kaiaua is a small seaside settlement located North of Miranda on the Shorebird Coast and over the Firth from Thames. With Miranda close by the Miranda Shorebird Centre and Miranda Orchard and Gallery along with Rangipo Museum and Pa Site are all well worth a visit.
Slightly north of Kaiaua on East Coast Road is the shipwreck HMNZS Hinau, a Royal New Zealand Navy WWII minesweeper. Best access for this is along the foreshore.
No stop to Kaiaua is complete without a feed of Fish and Chips from the legendary Kaiaua Fish and Chip shop.
Kaiaua also features on the the Hauraki Rail trail as the starting point on the Pacific Coast Highway.
