Issued 28th Jan 2023 - The Coromandel has experienced a severe weather event, with a state of emergency declared on 3 Feb 2023. As a result, SH25a and the Tapu Coroglen roads have been closed.
Some local DOC campsites are closed, and Te Whatu Ora Waikato advises everyone to not use coastal beaches, lakes, rivers and streams until at least 48 hours following heavy rainfall due to potential bacterial contamination.

Mercury Bay Art Escape is all go for the first 2 weekends in March 2023. After the past hiatus, 41 artists from Tairua to Matarangi are preparing to welcome art lovers to their open studios. With 15 new members, and a variety of new mediums, Mercury Bay Art Escape promises to be an exciting creative journey for our visitors.
In conjunction with the release of the 2023 Art Guide we are excited to announce the launch of our newly refreshed website with current local art events, information on artists and open studios, workshops and art news in the area.

Kicking off with the Gala event at 6pm on Friday 3 March at Hot Waves Café in Hot Water Beach, the Art Escape will be opened by treasured New Zealand gardening writer and broadcaster - Lynda Hallinan. Integrating art and nature, Lynda’s favourite gardens are those that double as both a work of planted art, and as a space to share and showcase the work of other creative minds.

To view the Artist’s Showcase Exhibition that features one work from each member and group, call in to Hot Waves Café for lunch or brunch from March 5 - April 11. Vote for your favourite artwork and the artist with the most public votes wins the coveted People's Choice Award.
