Who would imagine the fabulous display these two small towns put on year after year, set off from a barge in the centre of the harbour.
You can view the New Years Eve Fireworks display at midnight, from both Tairua and Paunaui.
Best vantage points: Pauanui - Billy Point, Tairua - along the estuary reserve, or up on Paku.
Actually, you can see them from just about everywhere!
