Tramway, tunnel and museum are open Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 10 am -3pm, but you can visit this interesting historic site on the bank of the Ohinemuri River any time.Its a great place for a pit stop and a picnic on the Hauraki Rail Trail/Karangahake Walkway
Access via the walkway bridge over the Ohinemuri River from Waikino railway station or drive slowly in off Waitawheta Road at Owharoa to the parking area. The icturesque site is always open, with relics and ruins to explore. Interpretation signage by the Department of Conservation - truly a hidden treasure.
A sandwich board on the Walkway-Rail Trail indicates visitors can walk or cycle up the hill to the large concrete Transformer House for a tour.
