On the right hand side (heading north) on the main road 2km north of Tairua are two stunning Kauri trees standing side by side. Stop for a photo of these trees.
These two Kauri trees, known as the Twin Kauris, are easily accessible and well worth the photo opportunity. Approximately 10 minutes drive north out of Tairua on SH25. Situated on the right side of the road the Twin Kauris mark the start of the track. You can see the Twin Kauri trees from the road.
There is a short walk from the Twin Kauris (which is currently closed as at December 2019) which will take you to a smaller plantation of Kauri trees and other natives. Time: 30 minutes return. Please check the track conditions at the Tairua Information Centre; this track is not always open.
