From its beginnings in 2005, the Whitianga Scallop Festival has grown into one of New Zealand's most popular seafood events. Scallops rank up there as one of Kiwis favourite seafoods, but owing to the pressure on the scallop fishery, the festival organisers have decided to leave the molluscs safely in their beds for now.

The new Whitianga Oceans Festival will deliver yet another fabulous day centred around seafood, music, beverages and entertainment. The festival will celebrate both the region's, and New Zealand caught seafood as well as our marine heritage as we allow our scallop beds to rest and recover.

This Festival will continue to be one of New Zealand’s iconic seafood/kaimoana celebrations.

As usual, the Festival will feature well-known chefs to inspire you and delight your taste buds with a myriad of ways to prepare our bountiful seafood. Top that with live stages, some of New Zealand's best jazz and blues bands, and you have a jam-packed day of festivities. Mark next year's Oceans Festival in your diaries and make sure you experience the tastes, aromas, sounds and sights of The Coromandel seafood in Whitianga.
