Destination Hauraki Coromandel – Content and PR Specialist

As we navigate towards a future where tourism gives more than it takes for Hauraki Coromandel, we seek a writer who loves to sniff out a great local story and showcase all the elements of The Coromandel good for your soul brand.

We're a small tight-knit team based in Thames, and while we want someone who is enthusiastic, precise and methodical, we'd also like someone who can foster great relationships with a wide range of partners and has good media contacts.

Ideally, you will already know our region well and have experience and qualifications in a similar tourism-related role, but if you have a positive outlook and you are willing to learn, we can shape the role for the right person. We value collaboration as a team; an aptitude for sustainable practices relating to tourism and some knowledge of Te Ao Māori would be welcome.

This is a permanent position with the possibility of part or full-time hours depending on what you can bring to the role and your situation. Our office is in Thames, and we would expect you to work there most days, with a hybrid work arrangement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create multi-media content that enhances the region’s reputation and upholds our guiding stars for destination management
  • Manage all media relationships and develop media opportunities to promote regional awareness and reputation as a tourism destination
  • Develop strong relationships with local tourism operators and knowledge of tourism experiences in the region
  • Manage image library

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal expertise – attention to detail is a must!
  • A strong team player who is also comfortable challenging the status quo
  • Ability to work autonomously, while delivering collaborative results
  • The ability to read the room and engage a range of stakeholders

Destination Hauraki Coromandel – Trade and Media Specialist

As we navigate towards a future where tourism gives more than it takes for Hauraki Coromandel, we seek a B2B relationship lead to foster connections between our tourism businesses, the travel trade and travel media.

Ideally, you will already know our region well as you will provide information, knowledge and resources to support our tourism businesses and travel trade and media partners. The objective is to lift inclusions for Hauraki Coromandel in visitor itineraries and media stories, so travel trade and media contacts will be useful too.

You will likely have experience and qualifications in a similar tourism-related role, but if you have transferable skills and a positive outlook, please apply. We value collaboration as a team, and an aptitude in sustainable practices relating to tourism and some knowledge of Te Ao Māori would be welcome.

This is a permanent position with the possibility of part or full-time hours depending on the trade event calendar and what you can bring to the role. Our office is in Thames, and we would expect you to work there most days, with a hybrid work arrangement. Some overnight travel is required in this role (but not often).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain key trade and media relationships
  • Create and deliver training presentations and updates for the travel industry
  • Uncover media opportunities and make a great pitch
  • Represent Destination Hauraki Coromandel at trade events
  • Plan and coordinate trade and media familiarisations (famils)
  • Support local operators to ensure market readiness.

Skills:

  • Strong relationship-building and communication
  • Epic organisation and a love of process
  • A team player who is also comfortable challenging the status quo
  • Ability to work autonomously, while delivering collaborative results
  • A good understanding of travel trade distribution channels
  • Understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act with respect to tourism.
