Tairua River Trail - Planting Project
The Tairua River Trail winds along the estuary, offering 6.4 km of flat, family-friendly terrain perfect for walkers, cyclists, and e-bikers. With sections passing through wetlands, mangrove forests, and farmland, this trail connects visitors with the rich natural beauty and history of the area. The trail passes through the Memorial Forest, planted in memory of the Sinai-Palestine campaign of WWI, and includes features like a BMX practice track for kids.
Built by volunteers, the trail is still expanding. Its vision is to eventually loop around the upper harbour to Tairua, creating more opportunities for outdoor enjoyment and conservation.
